  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Chocolate Swirl

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

For the Vanilla Frosting

  • 1 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
PREPARATION METHOD

Begin by preheating the oven to 350°F (180°C) and preparing two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them. Mix cocoa powder, hot water, and granulated sugar in a small bowl until well combined. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Take about 1 cup of the cake batter and mix it with the prepared chocolate swirl mixture. Pour half of the vanilla batter into one prepared cake pan. Spoon half of the chocolate swirl mixture on top of the vanilla batter. Repeat with the second cake pan.

Use a skewer or knife to gently swirl the chocolate mixture into the vanilla batter, creating a marbled effect. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. In a bowl, beat together powdered sugar, softened butter, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.

Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one cake layer with a portion of the vanilla frosting. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.

Slice and enjoy your delicious marbled cake! Customize the recipe to your preferences and savor the delightful combination of chocolate and vanilla flavors in every bite.
