– 200g (7 oz) dark chocolate, chopped
– 150g (1 1/4 cups) all-purpose flour
– 200g (1 cup) granulated sugar
– 150g (2/3 cup) unsalted butter
– 3 large eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 100g (1 cup) chopped walnuts
– 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– Optional: powdered sugar for dusting
1. **Preheat Oven:** Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan (8×8 inches or similar) with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal of the brownies later.
2. **Melt Chocolate and Butter:** In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped dark chocolate and unsalted butter together. You can do this using a microwave in short bursts, stirring in between, or over a double boiler on the stove. Once melted, set aside to cool slightly.
3. **Mix Dry Ingredients:** In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
4. **Combine Wet Ingredients:** In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
5. **Incorporate Chocolate Mixture:** Gradually pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the bowl with the wet ingredients, stirring continuously until fully incorporated.
6. **Add Dry Ingredients:** Slowly add the sifted dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tough brownies.
7. **Fold in Walnuts:** Gently fold in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
8. **Bake:** Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
9. **Cool and Serve:** Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brownies out of the pan. Cut into squares or rectangles, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve.
