Bolognese Cake”

For the cake:
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup cocoa powder
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup milk
– 1/2 cup vegetable oil
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– 1 cup finely chopped cooked ground beef (seasoned with salt, pepper, and Italian herbs)
– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Bolognese sauce:
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 carrot, finely grated
– 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
– 1/2 pound ground beef
– 1/2 pound ground pork
– 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
– 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
– 2 tablespoons tomato paste
– 1 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1 teaspoon dried basil
– Salt and pepper to taste

For the frosting:
– 8 oz cream cheese, softened
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 2 cups powdered sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

2. Start by making the Bolognese sauce. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions, garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

3. Add ground beef and pork to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

4. Pour in the red wine (if using) and let it simmer for a couple of minutes until slightly reduced.

5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.

6. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

7. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

8. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

9. Fold in the finely chopped cooked ground beef and grated Parmesan cheese into the cake batter.

10. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.

11. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

12. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before removing.

13. While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.

14. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until well combined and smooth.

15. Once the cake has cooled, frost the top and sides of the cake with the cream cheese frosting.

16. Serve slices of Bolognese Cake and enjoy the unique savory-sweet flavor combination!
