- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 115 g unsalted butter
- 175 ml buttermilk
- 115 g grated cheddar cheese
- 75 g diced ham
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F). This ensures even cooking and a golden crust. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper while the oven heats up.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, and kosher salt. Stir the dry ingredients thoroughly to make sure everything is evenly distributed.
Add the butter to the dry mixture. Using your fingertips, rub it in until the mixture becomes crumbly. Then pour in the buttermilk and mix gently.
Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and diced ham. Mix until a rough dough forms. Be careful not to overwork the dough, just until combined.
Lightly flour a surface and transfer the dough onto it. Flatten it into a round about 20 cm wide. Use a knife to cut into 8 wedges.
Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Sprinkle the chopped green onion over the warm biscuits. Serve immediately while still fresh and flavorful.
