Dome with Coffee and Chocolate Cream

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE COFFEE CAKE

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brewed coffee, cooled

FOR THE CHOCOLATE CREAM

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules (optional, for extra coffee flavor)
PREPARATION METHOD

PREPARE THE COFFEE CAKE

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan or use parchment paper for easy removal.

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, which should take about 2-3 minutes.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the brewed coffee, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

PREPARE THE CHOCOLATE CREAM

In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the heavy cream until it’s just about to simmer. Do not let it boil.

Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for a minute to melt the chocolate.

Stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. If desired, add the instant coffee granules and stir until they dissolve.

Let the chocolate cream cool to room temperature, then refrigerate it for about 1-2 hours or until it thickens.

ASSEMBLE THE DOME WITH COFFEE AND CHOCOLATE CREAM

Once the coffee cake is completely cooled, place it on a serving plate.

Spread the chocolate cream evenly over the top of the cake.

You can garnish the dessert with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or a drizzle of melted chocolate, if desired.
